Chai Spiced Oatmeal

Chai Spiced Oatmeal

I know we love chai-spiced stuff here at New English Teas, but this recipe was just too good not to share. It elevates the humble oatmeal breakfast into something fit for the chilly new year. Lightly spiced and perfect with fruit and nuts, it's a healthy breakfast perfect for a cozy escape from the January drizzle.

Makes: 1 x Serving

Takes: 8-10 Minutes

Ingredients

1 cups of rolled oats (gluten-free can work too!)

1 black teabag (we recommend one of our English Breakfast blend!)

1/2 cup of almond milk (or any milk of your choice)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fresh fruit (such as sliced bananas or berries) and/or nuts for topping

A Chai-Spiced Oatmeal with Berries and Nuts

Method

1. In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to the boil. Add the teabag and let it steep for 3-5 minutes. Remove the teabag.

2. Stir in the rolled oats and reduce the heat to medium. Cook the oats in the tea infused water, stirring regularly until smooth.

3. Once the oats are cooked, add the milk, honey or maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cardamom, and vanilla extract. Stir well.

4. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the oatmeal reaches your desired consistency (we like it smooth but not too runny!).

5. Serve the chai spiced oatmeal warm, and top with your fruit and nuts if desired.

The perfect healthy warming breakfast for a very rainy January. Enjoy.
